August 2026 – City Applying for Resilience Grant

We learned from Eleanor Hollander and Amanda Knowles that the City plans to apply by September 5 for a State of California Community Resilience Center grant that could provide partial funding for renovations of both Old City Hall/Maudelle Shirek Building and the Veterans Memorial Building. The program, managed by the California Strategic Growth Council (SGC), focuses on protecting vulnerable communities from extreme climate events like severe heat, poor air quality, and power outages. See these slides presented at CCCC’s August 3  Zoom meeting. The grant deadline is September 5, so there is still time to send words of support or questions to civiccenter@berkeleyca.gov.
